Feb 03, 2026

President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, today held a series of bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai, reaffirming Botswana’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation and diplomatic relations.

President Boko met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, His Excellency Professor Duro Macut. The discussions reaffirmed the longstanding diplomatic relations between Botswana and Serbia, which date back to 1970, and acknowledged Serbia’s historic solidarity with the African continent.

During the meeting, President Boko expressed Botswana’s desire to deepen cooperation with Serbia through the establishment of a more structured and clearly defined framework for collaboration. The two leaders agreed to identify and prioritise key areas of mutual interest to guide future engagements.

Prime Minister Macut extended an invitation to Botswana to participate in one of Europe’s largest international exhibitions scheduled for 2027, which attracts over 130 countries. In support of Botswana’s participation, Serbia offered 150 square metres of exhibition space to showcase Botswana’s business potential to a global audience.

President Boko also held discussions with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Gaston Browne, during which he gained insights into the country’s successful Citizenship-by-Investment Programme. The initiative was highlighted as a potential model from which Botswana could draw valuable lessons when exploring similar development strategies.

In another bilateral engagement, the UAE Minister of State in Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation to President Boko for his participation in the World Government Summit and underscored the importance of sustained dialogue in advancing international cooperation.

These engagements underscore Botswana’s proactive diplomatic posture and its continued efforts to enhance its global presence while exploring innovative avenues for collaboration across various sectors.
