Feb 23, 2026

Five years after the official opening of the iconic Kazungula Bridge, today in Kasane, Botswana and Zambia formalised a powerful symbol of regional cooperation with the signing of the agreement establishing the Kazungula Bridge Authority.

The two governments agreed to sponsor the construction and operation of the Bridge Infrastructure and host the Kazungula Bridge Authority on Botswana side while Zambia will retain the Executive Director position.

The Authority will ensure sustainable operations, long-term maintenance and continued growth of one of Africa’s most strategic trade links.

Botswana was represented by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Noah Salakae, while Hon. Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, signed on behalf of Zambia.

Tomorrow President Duma Boko and his Zambian counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema will jointly officiate at the Launch of the Authority at Kazungula.
