BOTSWANA GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS PRIVACY NOTE

The Botswana Government Communications and Information System (BGCIS), is a body established by Presidential Directive Cab. 30/06, for purposes of encouraging public participation in Botswana democracy through ensuring the government visibility, and the timely delivery of information pertaining to government services and initiatives to the public in the most accessible and inclusive manner. To that end, the public is hereby assured that, BGCIS is committed to observing and implementing the Data Protection Act of 2024 in the processing of personal data in connection therewith.  

In advancing its mandate of managing public relations, disseminating government information and coordinating with media houses; personal data collected, used or disclosed on the government portal, government social media platforms or otherwise, shall be based on public interest or official authority vested in BGCIS, and such data will be stored securely at all times to preserve its integrity and confidentiality. Any transfers of personal data outside Botswana shall be based on mechanisms fit to ensure that such personal data enjoys an adequate level of protection in the destination country.

Individuals whose personal data is handled by us or is in our possession may invoke the right to access, delete, or object to the processing of their personal data. Requests to exercise these data subject rights may be sent to dpo-msp [at] gov.bw or hand delivered to the Floor 2 Finance House office 207 or contact Data Protection Officer at +267 395 0944 / +267 75 400 167.
