Trade Unions as Strategic Partners in Constitutional Court Consultations
Jan 29, 2026

The Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Honourable Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, today addressed an interfaith consultative workshop on the proposed Constitutional Court, emphasising the importance of constitutional review in promoting equality, justice, and fairness for all citizens.

Addressing church leaders and representatives of faith-based organisations, Hon. Mohwasa stressed the need for strong cooperation between government and religious institutions. He highlighted the critical role pastors and church leaders play in society noting that their contributions to social justice and nation-building are invaluable.

The Minister further explained that the proposed Constitutional Court is intended to protect low-income earners and other vulnerable groups who often experience corporate or social injustice but are unable to seek legal recourse due to financial constraints. He reiterated the Government of Botswana’s commitment to advocate for the less privileged in order to promote fairness, justice, and improved livelihoods for all citizens.

Hon. Mohwasa further emphasised that under the proposed framework, any decisions, including those made by government, could be challenged before the Constitutional Court if deemed unfair. This, he said, would strengthen transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in Botswana
