Provision of technical services on land assessment for agricultural purpose, land suitability, soil fertility, land rehabilitation and land identification. The service also focuses on implementation of agricultural land use plans in collaboration with other stakeholders.

Project Appraisal

Overview

This service is meant to assist organizations and individual farmers who want an evaluation report for their project for several reasons. These reasons can include applying for funding for a new project, settling appeals and disputes, determining project viability and performance, and redirecting and allocating resources. 

Who is eligible?

Citizens & non-citizens.

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the nearest District Agribusiness Promotion Offices ​ for submission of developed business plans and historic performance records for existing projects.
  • Organizations and individual farmers will then use their final reports to address their specific problems.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Proof of residence (a certified copy of their resident permit for non-citizens).
  • A certified copy of a valid National Identity Card (Omang) for citizens
  • A business plan (for both new and existing projects).
  • Historic performance records (for existing projects).
How long will this service take?

Two (2) months from the date of submission of the business plan.

How much does it cost?

No cost.

Preparation of a Business Plan

Overview

This service is meant to assist farmers in developing comprehensive business plans. The provision of this service empowers farmers with business planning skills. When completed, the farmer submits a business plan to funding institutions or keeps it safe for future reference.

Who is eligible?

Citizens & non-citizens.

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the nearest District Agribusiness Promotion Offices for guidance on the development of the business plan.
  • Develop and submit the business plan.
What supporting documents are required?
  • A valid National Identity  Card (Omang) for citizens (certified copy)
  • A valid Residence Work Permit for non-citizens(certified copy)
  • Land Right Certificate (for leased or allocated by Land-Board authorities) (certified copy)
  • Proof of Land Lease Agreement for Land signed by both parties (if leasing) (certified copy)
  • Proof of Water Right Certificate from Water Apportionment Board (if applicable to the intended project) (certified copy)
  • A Land Suitability Assessment report by relevant departments(certified copy)
  • Relevant documents (including management C.V.’s for the employees of the project) if it is a start-up project
  • Past project performance accounts (includes inventory and value of assets) if it is for an expansion or resuscitation and;
  • Proof of Finance from potential financer

Approximately two (2) weeks depending on how quickly relevant documents are submitted.

Business Plan Appraisal for Farming

Overview

This service is meant to assess business plans for those farmers who want to apply to financial institutions for funding for start-ups or to rescale (expand, modify, abandon or replace) a project or their existing businesses. The farmer is intensively involved during the assessment process for ownership and is expected to explain and translate some issues that may prove to be difficult for the officer to easily understand.

Who is eligible?

Citizen and Non-Citizen farmer with:

  • A reliable water source (excluding rain-fed production).
  • A potential financier.
  • An existing project (for those who want to use it to manage or rescale their existing project).
How do I get this service?
  • Submit developed business plan for review at the District Agribusiness Promotion Office.
  • Once the assessment of the business plan is complete, the business plan is returned to the farmer who will then submit it to the financial institution to apply for funding or use it as a reference tool for rescaling of an existing project.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Proof of residence (a certified copy of resident permit for non- citizens).
  • A certified copy of a valid National Identity Card (Omang) for citizens.
  • A Land Rights Certificate (leased or allocated by Landboard Authorities).
  • A developed business plan.
  • A land assessment report by relevant departments.​​

Analytical Testing of Soil, Plants, Fertilisers, Water and Animal Feeds

Overview

Analytical services are provided on agricultural and related materials (soils, animal feeds, plants, fertilisers and irrigation water).

Who is eligible?
  • Researchers. 
  • Subsistence farmers. 
  • Commercial farmers. 
  • Young farmers. 
  • Parastatals. 
  • Other government departments. 
  • Private agencies.
How do I get this service?
  • Complete Soil sample submission form for soil and fertiliser samples.
  • Complete Plant sample submission form for plant and animal feed samples. 
  • Submit samples with the relevant completed application form to the laboratory for testing. (See address below). 
  • After evaluation of the test results, a report will be dispatched to the applicant in the form of a report. 
  • If required, the test results can be explained to applicants by a laboratory officer.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of Valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • Young farmers need to produce a letter (confirming that they are the youth in that district) written by the District Agricultural Office.
How long will this service take?

Fourteen to Twenty-one (14 to 21) working days.

Visit the nearest District Crop Production Office and District  Animal Production Office.
