Overview

The Town and Country Planning Act of 2013,under past II 4(2) stipulates the function of Director of Town and Country Planning as to keep a register of persons registered to practice as physical planners in Botswana.

Who is eligible?

All individuals who have successfully attained a qualification within the discipline of planning.

How do I get this service?
  • Complete, and submit the application form to register as a physical planner
  • Pay the registration fee 
  • The Planner’s registration will process the application and register the planner based on whether the application fully satisfies all requirements requested
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of identity document or passport
  • Certified copy ( ies) of relevant academic certificate (s) from recognized academic planning institution (s)
  • Curriculum Vitae (cv)
  • Affiliation with a local planning institute

Cancellation of a Mortgage Bond

Overview

The holder of a title deed to a property which has been mortgaged may cancel registration of such a bond.

Who is eligible?

Any registered holder of a title deed over a property ​​may cancel a registration of a mortgage bond.

How do I get this service?

Through the assistance of a Conveyancer (an attorney admitted as a conveyancer by courts of law).

What supporting documents are required?
  • A registered mortgage bond to be cancelled
  • Title deed of the property
  • Consent (of the bond holder) to cancellation of the bond prepared by conveyancer (an attorney admitted as a conveyancer by courts of law)
  • A resolution by the lender of the mortgage bond, where necessary
  • Submissions are accepted from 07:30 to 11:00 each day at the deeds office
  • Consent to cancellation prepared by conveyancer (an attorney admitted as a conveyancer by courts of law) of the execution of registration or cancellation of property to mortgage bond
  • A resolution where necessary
How long will this service take?

If all documents are submitted at the time of registration, the process should take approximately five working days.

Borehole Registration

Overview

This service provides a unique official borehole identification number to both government and privately-drilled boreholes. This number links the borehole with its completion report, the Borehole Completion Certificate (Form G.S. 184), that is stored in the National Borehole Archive (database). The Borehole Completion Certificate is a physical description of how the borehole was drilled and constructed and also includes information such as ownership, location, lithology, water strike, yield and water quality.

Who is eligible?

All citizens and businesses that own boreholes qualify for this service. 

How do I get this service?
  • Both the driller and the owner or representative of the borehole must come for registration of the borehole.
  • The driller accurately fills in borehole information as per the requirements of the Borehole Completion Certificate, Form G.S. 184 (available at the office mentioned below)
    1. Name and address of applicant (borehole owner details)
    2. Borehole location in latitude and longitude coordinates obtained using a GPS instrument (in either degrees, minutes, seconds or degrees and decimal minutes)
    3. Drilling period
    4. Drilling, casing and screen installation information
    5. Lithological information and drilling soil and rock chip samples
    6. ​A neat sketch map showing the exact location of the borehole with reference to prominent features such as the nearest village, town, hill, or river in kilometres and direction should be made at the back of the certificate
    7. Signing of the chip samples submission section of the form
    8. ​Water strike, yield and water samples and quality information
  • ​Customer submits chip samples a​​nd G.S. 184 form
  • Allocate the customer a borehole number and fill it into the Borehole Completion Certificate, Form G.S. 184
  • Borehole owner and driller get the original and a copy of Borehole Completion Certificate (white and pink copies respectively)
What supporting documents are required?

The customer must provide a completely filled certificate (Form G.S. 184) with chip and soil samples as attachments.

This process takes one day.

Boat Registration

Overview

All boats imported and used in Botswana must be registered with the Government of Botswana, much like a motor vehicle. The service entails the following:

  • Issuing registration certificates to all boats in Botswana.
  • Issuing import permits to boats entering Botswana.
  • Issuing inter-zonal permits to boats moving between zones. Zones are demarcated surface water bodies or rivers. Botswana is divided into six zones: Chobe, Okavango, Marico, Limpopo, Kwando Linyanti and Nata.
  • Performing boat inspections and spraying.

All citizens, non-citizens and businesses who hold a Boat Ownership Certificate and own a boat can apply for this service.

Water Rights Application

Overview

Procedure for permission to draw water from boreholes,wells,dams,lakes and rivers.

Who is eligible?

All citizens, residents and businesses are eligible to apply for this service.

How do I get this service?
  • Complete either of the following forms: APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION OF EXITING RIGHTAPPLICATION FOR GRANT OF WATER RIGHTAPPLICATION FOR CREATION OF SERVITUDE FORMNOTIFICATION OF ACQUISITION OF RIGHT BY AGREEMENT FORM.
  • Submit the completed forms to the Department of Water and Sanitation office (address provided below) together with a copy of the Customary Land Grant Certificate, Lease Agreement or the Title Deed. In the case of land owned by the state, attach the letter of authority to use the land from the Director of Lands.
  • Attach approved application for and grant of field/project water point in case of private boreholes (a permission to drill).
  • Attach borehole completion certificate (to check and verify ownership)
  • Attach a sketch map including point of abstraction (coordinates) for river draw-offs
  • Applications are charged at P60.00 as cost recovery measure as per Presidential Directive Cab 2/2004
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of valid national identity card (Omang) for citizens
  • Certified copy of passports for non-citizens
  • Customary Land Grant Certificate or Title Deed
  • Letter of authority from the Director of Lands confirming that the applicant has surface rights where the borehole is located
How long will this service take?

Once all of the necessary documents are submitted, this process takes 90 days to complete.
